The short version
We collect as little as we can, we never sell your data, and you stay in control. This page explains what we keep and why, in plain English. Any time you want to change something, the switches are in your settings and linked below.
Playing without an account
You can jump right in without signing in. We keep a random session id on your device so your streaks, votes, and stats are waiting when you come back. It isn't tied to your name or email, and it lives only on that browser.
When you sign in
Signing in with Google or Xlets your progress follow you across devices. From your provider we receive and store your display name, profile picture, and email address. We use your email to secure your account and to send only the game emails you've opted into. We never post to your social accounts and never read your contacts, timeline, or messages.
Your game data
As you play, we save the things that make the game work: your votes, streaks, stats, achievements, and any questions you submit. This is what powers your profile, your records, and the leaderboards.
Insights & how you compare
Want richer "how you compare" insights? You can optionally add a few details in Preferences, like your country, age range, gender, and interests. We use them only to build anonymous, aggregatedcomparisons, such as how your answers line up with the crowd. To keep your numbers steady, we note which group an answer belonged to at the moment you answered. These details are never shown next to your name, they're completely optional, and you can edit or clear them whenever you like.
Approximate location
To power country leaderboards and local comparisons, we estimate your countryfrom your connection or browser. That's a country-level guess only. We never track your precise location, and you can set your country or switch it off in Preferences.
What others can see
You decide how public you are. In your settings you can make your profile public or private and choose whether your stats, achievements, recent answers, and leaderboard placement are visible to others. The leaderboard shows your display name, avatar, country flag, and streak; if you'd rather stay out of the spotlight, you still get ranked but appear as a hidden player.
Cookies & ads
Essential cookies run the game: your session, sign-in, and security. These are always on. Advertising cookies(through Google AdSense) help keep Rather.gg free. Visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland see a Google consent prompt first, and advertising cookies stay off until you agree. If you don't consent, we serve non-personalized ads instead. You can reopen these choices any time below.
Notifications
Push notifications are strictly opt-in and off by default. If you turn them on, your browser creates a subscription and we store the technical details needed to deliver them: a device push endpoint, its encryption keys, your browser type, and, if you're signed in, your account id. We use this only to send the notifications you asked for, like the daily question or fresh drops. We never sell or share it. You can turn notifications off any time from the bell in the menu, or in your browser or device settings, and we delete the subscription when you do.
Keeping & deleting your data
We keep your information only as long as it's useful for the game. Guest data sticks around while your device stays active and is cleared after a long stretch of inactivity. If you have an account, you can delete it any timefrom your settings, and accounts left unused for a long time are removed automatically (we email you first). When you delete your account we remove personal details like your name, email, and avatar. Some contributions may live on in an anonymized form that can't be traced back to you: aggregated stats, and any questions you shared with the community, which we keep but detach from your identity.
Who we work with
We don't sell your personal data, full stop. We rely on a small set of trusted providers to run Rather.gg, including hosting, database, email delivery, advertising, and anti-abuse protection, and they only handle data as needed to provide their service. We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to keep the community safe.
Children
Rather.gg is for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Your choices
Change your mind at any time. Manage ad and cookie consent right here, adjust your visibility and preferences in your settings, and delete your account whenever you like.
